The National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the results of the 2024 Internal Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, (SSCE), with a record of 828,284, representing 60.55 per cent of students who scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, which is higher than that of 2023.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Wushishi, who disclosed this while announcing the release of the results 55 days after the conclusion of the examination, said the figure is of the 1,367,736 that sat for the examination out of the 1,376,423, who registered.
He added that there was an increase in the number of candidates who got 5 credits and above, including English and mathematics, as against the year 2023.
According to him, the number of candidates with five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics, is 828,284, representing 60.55 per cent, while the number of candidates with five Credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics, is 1,147,597, representing 83.90 per cent.
Wushishi also said their strategies for curbing examination malpractice are yielding positive results, as there has been a sharp decline in the number of cases recorded.
According to him, the number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437 as against 12,030 in 2023, which shows a reduction of 30.1 per cent.
Professor Wushishi added that during the conduct of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), 40 schools were found to have been involved in whole school (Mass) cheating in 17 States.
He said, they will be invited to the Council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti was recommended for de-recognition for Mass Cheating in 2 core subjects and 01 Science subject.
Similarly, twenty-one (21) Supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor Supervision, Aiding and Abetting, Abscondment, Extortion, Drunkenness and Negligence in 12 States.
By this release, the NECO registrar, therefore, said candidates can now access their results on the NECO website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration numbers
